Old Fisherman's Grotto is a true Monterey Landmark. Founded in 1950, and family owned and operated all that time, Old Fisherman's Grotto has become a “must visit” restaurant while in Monterey. In the past 13 months, we have twice won the “Best Clam Chowder in Monterey County” awarded by the readers of the Monterey County Weekly. Other honors include the “Business Excellence Award” from the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, the “Seafood Ambassador Award” from Julie Packard of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and eight of the past ten years we have been selected as one of the Top Ten Seafood Restaurants in the Nation (American Academy of Restaurant and Hospitality Sciences). In October of 2004, Chris Shake, son of the late Sabu Shake and owner of the restaurant, was inducted into the exclusive California Restaurant Association's Hall of Fame. We feature fresh seafood from sustainable sources, following the guidelines of the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program. Also certified Angus beef, fresh pasta and a children's menu. Banquet facilities are beautiful, roomy, and provide a wonderful view of the marina. Our banquet room is able to accommodate 90-95 people.
